Zetas in Action was originally formed by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, pursuant to a vote of the Executive Board at a meeting held in September 2022. Zetas in Action was organized as a separate entity to encourage improvements to the social welfare of individuals and communities by, among other things, supporting policies, activities, and programs through education and advocacy for the adoption or rejection of legislation and policies on issues that are important to the membership of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated and members of the communities in which it serves, such as voter and election reform, criminal justice reform, elder care, infant mortality, international aid, education, and access to quality health care in communities of color, among many others. Zetas in Action was incorporated in the District of Columbia on January 3, 2024, and is currently operating as a social welfare organization that is tax exempt under Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(4) while it awaits formal recognition from the Internal Revenue Service. Zetas in Action is governed by its articles of incorporation and bylaws.
